Transcript for Meditation: Embodying queer and trans joy
This is a practice of centering and embodying queer joy and trans joy. As always, any invitations in this practice are just that invitations. So do what's best for your person and your body, and disregard anything that doesn't feel aligned for you.
Before starting this practice, we are also honoring the roots of queer joy and trans joy and the roots of these practices in black, queer and trans joy and liberation spaces.
So as we get started, take a moment and find your container for your person and your body, wherever that might be. Nature. A comfortable chair and your bed. Find a place that feels safe and supportive enough to slow down and drop in a little bit. Feel what's holding you. Whether it's the chair, your bed, the earth that you're sitting on or standing on. And now feel your breath taking in an inhale and exhale. Following the intuition of your body. Of how deep and how long you want these breaths to be.
As we're settling in, take a moment and bring to mind a memory a time when you witnessed or when you experienced queer trans joy. Try not to force it. Let yourself be a satellite dish and see what you can receive. Maybe it's something you witnessed online or in a movie. Maybe it's something you were a part of in community. Maybe it was a private moment you had with yourself. Where you felt even a glimmer of joy in being queer, trans, gender expansive. And as you turn toward that memory, turn toward it as much as you want in this moment. Maybe you want to fully immerse. Maybe that feels like too much, and maybe you want to glance toward it twenty five percent. Or maybe you want to turn toward it. Just two percent. Trust yourself and your system.
Turn toward this memory as much as your body wants in this moment. And start to take in the sensory information in this memory. If there are sounds associated with it, or sense or visual or tactile things. Notice There's colors. If there's movement, maybe your body was moving or dancing in a certain way.
And now staying with this memory and immersing. See how your body responds. There may not be a lot of shifts. That's okay. There might be something subtle. Just start to notice how this feeling of queer trans lives in you. Maybe your posture changes. Maybe a movement wants to happen. Maybe you notice this memory living in a certain part of your body. Maybe it comes in as an energy. There's no right or wrong here.
See what it's like to say to yourself in this moment. This is your joy. This is your queer trans joy. And see if you want to create a loving force field around this joy. That protects it. that honours it. But keeps it living inside you. Maybe the force field feels like an energy. Maybe it's a force field that's protected by a natural element. Like trees or water. Or maybe it's something that's held in community of ancestors and folks in your life.
Before transitioning out of this practice. Just notice what's the anchor point that helps you come back to this joy? Maybe it's an image. Maybe it's the words queer, trans, joy. Maybe it lives in a certain part of your body that you can access when you want. Whatever it is, finding that anchor point to return to knowing that this lives inside you. And expanding outward. Connecting to the global and ancestral expressions of queer and trans joy. You are not alone in this experience. Feeling into the community of folks who tap into this practice. As survival. As resistance. And feeling the support of your ancestors have known the wisdom of this practice for generations.
When you feel ready take a couple deep breaths. Starting to reorient to the room. Taking in sight. Smell. Sound. Relocating your body in the space you're in. And honoring any shifts that are here now. Knowing you can come back to this practice whenever you need.
